Get organized

Before you pull out your packing tape or start decluttering your junk drawer, take a few minutes to sit down and get organized. You may want to create a folder or binder to help keep things in order. Some things you’ll need include:

  • A timeline: When do you need or want to move? If you’re relocating for a job or because you’ve purchased a new home, you may already have a set date. If not, have a goal date in mind. Once you have your timeline established, you’ll be able to plan for other milestones along the way.

  • Essential documents: Depending on your personal circumstances, some of the documents you should have on hand include:

Pay for an inspection

Consider the financials

Another essential part of selling a home is factoring in closing costs and taxes. A realtor can help with both. If you’re selling on your own, you may want to consult a real estate attorney to ensure you have all your paperwork in order.
